Bappi Lahiri’s And Obstructive Sleep Apnea. This Is What Indians Googled After Singer’s Demise.

The sudden demise of two singing sensations in the current month has shaken the entire nation. While all of us were still mourning the demise of the legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar, it came as a shock to hear the disheartening news of another sensational singer Bappi Lahiri passing away today.

Making our hearts heavy and leaving us all teary-eyed, one has truly said – that people might come and go, but their voices will continue to echo in the world forever! Though we can never forget the era brought by the singer in the industry, the people have been getting highly curious about the disease that took him from us. 

As soon as the news started floating around the internet, the first thing that started being googled on the internet was the age and the cause of death of the singer.

But before we start laying down the details about the cause and disease that the singer suffered, let’s have a look at some of the lesser-known yet interesting facts about the singer:

Born as Alokesh Lahiri, he popularized the disco music form in the Indian industry and was well known as a singer, record producer, composer, and politician. Aged 69 years, Bappi Lahiri stood a record for his breathtaking composition in 12 super hit silver jubilee movies that starred Jeetendra as the lead hero.

Born to Aparesh and Bansuri Lahiri, the Bengali singers, Bappi began his journey in the industry at the mere age of 3 years when he started playing tabla. A father to two children, a son, Bappa Lahiri, and a daughter Rema Lahiri, Bappi even got prominent for his glittery gold appearance decked up with gold chains and rings. 

Sending shockwaves in the industry, the singer lost his life in Criticare Hospital in Mumbai. After being admitted over a month following the serious lung infection caused due to Obstructive Sleep Apnea, a lot of Carbon dioxide got accumulated in his lungs and affected his health even more badly. 

The singer was not only a sensation in the Indian music industry but was even recognized internationally, where his song “come closer” was taken up for the Hollywood film, Lion. Apart from this, the singer even entered the industry as a director with the film Ek Adhura Sangeet.

Gaining prominence in the late 1970s early 1980s and 1990s, Bappi was responsible for delivering brilliant soundtracks in films like Disco Dancer, Justice Chaudhury, Sharaabi, Commando, etc.

That is still cherished by the fans. Entering the Guinness Book of World Records for recording over 180 songs for 33 films in 1986, Bappi even lent his voice for 3D computer-animated fantasy adventure film Moana in its Hindi version.

Grabbing the trophy for lifetime achievement in the 63rd Filmfare awards, he later got inclined towards making a political career back in 2014 and joined hands with Bharatiya Janata Party. 

Apart from this, the one stunner that most of us might not know about the singer was his association with the legend, Kishore Kumar.

Yes, Bappi was the nephew of Kishore da and even had a short stint as an actor before he finally stood strong in the music industry. Marking his Bollywood debut as an actor, Bappi was seen in the comedy-drama film, by Kishore Da named Badhti ka Naam Daadi.

Sharing a photo from his archives from the sets of the film, Bappi looked hilarious and highly unrecognizable in the pic. Starring Madhubala, Kishore Kumar, and Ashok Kumar in prominent roles, the film marked its release in 1958. 

And as for his deteriorating health conditions, the singer was discharged for one and a half days and was again rushed to hospital after getting critical. Being announced as dead on Tuesday, between 11:40 pm to 11:45 pm, the singer said goodbye to the world.

And as for the disease, Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the temporary relaxation of muscles supporting the throat and tongue that narrow down the airways and momentarily cut off breathing. This led to a serious infection in his lungs and has been one of the most googled diseases after the singer passed away.
