Despite being considered as one of the classic industries in the entertainment world, the Bollywood industry has always been criticized for copying content and taking inspiration from other regional cinemas. However, whatever might be the case, our favorite Bollywood celebs have always managed to entertain the audiences to an extreme level no matter what.
While the Indian audiences have always been judgmental upon guessing the success or flop of the film right from its trailer, there have been times when some Bollywood classics went on to surprise the audiences with their brilliant story plot and did exceptionally well that was never imagined by the audiences at the initial stage. Let’s have a look at some of such offbeat classics of all the time:
Sonu ke titu ki sweety
Are you also amongst those who still can’t get over the brilliance of this film!? Well, surpassing all the expectations and emerging as one of the record-breaking films at the box office, this film was not only loved for its brilliant characters but also its cherishing bromance and major friendship goals. After the tremendous success of the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series, the makers went on to work together with the same cast with a fresh plot that was not only loved for its content but also helped in revamping the image of Alok Nath by portraying him in an unseen and unimaginable avatar.
Initially being predicted of having the same monotonous plot as the previous installments of the Pyaar Ka Punchnama series, this film rather emerged as the second highest-grossing film of that year.
While the story of this film still manages to leave us all teary-eyed, this film didn’t have great expectations at the early stage. However, exceeding the predictions and emerging as the highest-grossing film of 2017, this film broke all the records and managed to deeply touch the hearts of Indian audiences. And not only in India, but the film also became successful overseas and crossed over rupees 500 crores in China making it a huge blockbuster of all time.
Dum Laga Ke Haisha
Now, who would have thought that such a simplistic story could manage to touch the hearts of the Indian audiences and create a charm with its beautiful songs? Well, it was a film that could not garner tremendous success in its first week but rather started grabbing the LimeLight in its second season. While we all have a mindset of witnessing beautiful actresses with zero figures and a perfect body, this film rather engaged their focus on creating good content and made all realize that despite not being on par with the body and face of the female lead in the film, it was rather a decent story with a good content that touched the hearts of audiences. Making the people flock to theaters with its off-beat content and mesmerizing story, this film became one of the major hits in 2015.
While we highly drool over the actor Ajay Devgn performing uniformed roles especially after the Singham series, seeing as the Income-Tax official in the film Raid was something beyond the expectations of the Indian audiences. A contemporary crime film based on real-life events where a raid was carried out by the Indian revenue service agents back in the 1980s, this film despite being a bit slow, managed to stick the eyes of the audiences to the screen and help the actor Ajay Devgn to break the mold with his magnificent performance in the film.
We all can certainly agree to the fact that if a movie has Irrfan Khan in it then it certainly can’t be worthless. Right!? Starring Irfan Khan alongside the Pakistani actress Saba Qamar in the Bollywood film Hindi Medium, this film managed to make a business of 100 crores making it the fifth highest-grossing film of the year 2017. While the audiences were highly fed up with the deteriorating quality of the Golmaal installments, the fourth installment of this film turned out to be a surprise and a game-changer for the Indian audiences. A brilliant combination of comedy along with elements of horror and drama, this film had certain newcomers adding to the franchise which helped the film be a great hit. While the film is still argued upon with conflicting reviews, it managed to charm the audiences and emerged as a tremendous hit after its failed 2nd and 3rd installments.
Marking the return of the late veteran actress Sridevi on the silver screen after years, this film was eagerly being looked forward to by the Indian audiences. Surrounding the prevalent taboo of not being able to communicate in English and the dilemmas caused by the same, this film managed to cross 4 million dollars overseas and made it named amongst the top 10 highest-grossing films of that year.
It’s a matter of fact that only a handful of movies can perform exceptionally well in all the installments rather than just performing well in the original installment, however, the film Baaghi was sadly not amongst that list.
