The television industry has a brilliant contribution towards making our childhood awesome. With the introduction of several classic serials back in the 90s, the small screens creations managed to create huge excitement amongst the Indian audiences. While there have been innumerable classic creations to date, however, one particular classic creation that still manages to create excitement amongst the audiences is the Malgudi Days.
With a set of brilliant characters and plots, Malgudi Days was indebted into a classic television series. Amongst various brilliant classics created to date, only a few books can rival the brilliance of RK Narayan’s Malgudi Days. Famous for enriching ordinary stories with a touch of the exotic, RK Narayan was a master storyteller best known for his portrayal of small-town life in India.

Rajam played by Rohith Srinath
Stepping into the glam world with the film, Janma Janmadha Anubandha back in 1980, the actor became highly prominent for his work in the character of Rajam in the serial, the Malgudi Days. Being a child artist back at the time, the actor has now transformed to a major extent and looks completely unrecognizable. Marking his appearance in several other movies, the actor became a part of films like Bellinaga, Garuda Rekhe, and Agnathavasa.
While the artist could have gone for making a good spanning career in the glam world, he was rather inclined towards venturing into a software company as a network administrator in 2000. Following this, the latter progressed by launching his startup in 2007, and by 2019 he became the owner of five startups!
Swami’s Mother played by Vaishali Kasaravalli
Stepping into the glam world with the film Yaava Janmada Maitri in 1972, the actress Vaishali Kasaravalli was one of the prominent actresses of the Kannada film industry. Grabbing several film projects in her kitty such as Subhadra Kalyana, Bangarada Baduku, Prema Raga Hadu Gelathi, etc. she became highly recognizable for her brilliant works back in the 90s.
Making her space in the hearts of people with a few television works as well, the actress was loved for her character of the protagonist’s mother in the serial The Malgudi days. Inclining towards a political career and contesting elections in 1996, the actress lost upon the same and even worked as a costume designer for a brief period.
While we all were loving her appearances, sadly, the actress died at the age of 58 years following kidney and liver problems.
Various Characters played by Anant Nag
Marking his debut in the industry with the 1973 Kannada film, Sankalpa, Anant has a huge spanning career in the glam industry. A prominent Indian actor and an occasional producer, Anant has appeared in various regional cinemas with Kannada being the most prominent one.
A huge spanning career of 47 years with appearing in over 270 films, Anant has also featured in theatre plays, television shows, and parallel cinema. A recipient of several accolades for his brilliant contributions, the actor has also been an MLA, a minister, and MLC for the JH Patel government in the past.
WS Swaminathan ‘Swami played by Master Manjunath
Probably the star of the show! Yes, the much-loved child artist and the lead character of WS Swaminathan or Swami was played by the child artist Manjunath Nayaker.
Marking his prominence in the glam world with his appearance in the series Malgudi days and film, Swami and friends, Manjunath started his career at the mere age of 3 years. Marking his appearance in as many as 68 movies in various languages so far, the actor has even raised a national and a state award for his brilliance.
While the actor became highly successful back at the time and appeared in several other works including films like Agneepath as young Vijay Deenanath Chauhan, Swati Kiranam, Nodi Swamy Navirodu Hige, etc. the actor finally decided to quit his career as an actor at the age of 19 years to focus on his studies.
And, later started working as a PR professional running his own PR company now.
Mani played by Raghuram Sitaram
Another child artist that became an all-time favorite for the audiences after his work as Mani in the show, The Malgudi Days, the actor Raghuram Sitaram was later seen in the other show, Rishton Kee Doree in 2003.
While he could have gone on to establish his career in the industry, he rather chose to stay away from the limelight and shifted to Canada and now works at an internet marketing company.
Venkatesh played by Shankar Nag
The Indian actor, producer, screenwriter, and director, Shankar Nag was predominantly known for his Kannada language and television works. Becoming the director and an actor to the teleserial, Malgudi Days, the actor gained huge prominence amongst the Indian audiences.
Making his debut with the movie Sarvasakshi in 1978, the actor shined like a bright star in the industry and went on to make his mark in various other brilliant movies. However, Shankar shook the fans with his sudden demise following a car crash in 1990 and the industry lost its star.
Nitya played by Deven Bhojani
Now, who doesn’t know about the brilliance of this actor!? Making his place in the industry as one of the brilliant actors, the Tele series Malgudi Days not only lent a life remembering story and characters but was also responsible for giving a gem, Deven Bhojani. The latter stepped into the glam world with this series and has never looked back since.
Starring in some of the brilliant creations like – Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Chala Mussaddi Office Office, Shrimaan Shrimati, etc. Deven has also appeared as a sidekick in several movies as well and was lastly seen in Wagle Ki Duniya – Nayi Peedhi Naye Kissey.
WT Srinivasan played by Girish Karnad
The actor, director, and Kannada writer, Girish Karnad made his acting debut with the movie Samskara in 1970 followed by his directorial debut in 1971 with the film, Vamsha Vriksha. Rising as a playwright in the industry, Girish was noted for his several directorial and appearances with Malgudi Days being the most prominent ones.
Portraying the role of WT Srinivasan, the actor was lastly seen marking an appearance in the Bollywood blockbuster, Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017 and passed away in 2019 following a prolonged illness followed by multiple organ failures.
Various Characters played by Harish Patel
Harish Patel has been named amongst one of the brilliant veteran actors of the Bollywood industry whose major contribution to the industry can certainly never be forgotten. Starting at the tender age of 7 years, the latter became a part of the industry with the film Mandi in 1983.
Post marking his appearance in numerous television shows and various blockbuster hits like Maine Pyaar Kiya, Andaz Apna Apna, Mr. India, etc. the actor was well noticed for his performance in the serial, Malgudi Days. As of now, the actor was last seen in the Marvel Studios’ Eternals.
